In the Legendary Edition, you're prompted for if you want to use / view Mass Effect: Genesis (since it's included by default in that version), allowing you to skip it if you want. This includes New Game +, so if you find this redundant or bothersome, you should uninstall it before starting the story again. In the original release of Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect: Genesis activates automatically every time you start a new game.
